Under the latest MTCP policy (effective for new applications submitted from 1 September 2026 onwards), whether overseas insurance is acceptable depends on the applicant’s age:

Please ensure your passport satisfies two critical requirements:

1. Valid Visa Pages: You must have genuine blank visa pages available. Applicants shall not be entitled to a visa endorsement if the passport only has the final pages remaining with the title “Endorsements” or “Observations”, as visa stickers are not permitted on these pages.
2. Cancellation of Existing Visas: Ensure there is no other valid Malaysian visa or pass (e.g., Employment Pass, Spouse Visa, Work Permit) active in your passport. Any existing visas must be officially cancelled in the Immigration system beforehand.

You shall make 3 types of payment upon approval letter issued by immigration and provide final documents as per requested by immigration:-

1. Payment 1: final payment of 80% to the representative agency
2. Payment 2: Security bond fees (one-time payment) to Immigration via online portal of immigration. Amount varied depend on nationality
3. Payment 3: Visa fees as per final page of approval letter. Payable at immigration cashier counter using CARD only. No cash allowed.

S-MM2H visa duration given is based on the passport validity.
Eg. Visa endorsement in 2025 on Passport expiring in 2027, immigration will only give you 2yrs instead of 5yrs. You will be given the remaining 3yrs after you renew your passport and will be required to apply for extension of visa. This will make up a total of 5yrs for 1st term.

It is an assurance for the Sarawak Government to have this security deposit amount to back up any unforeseen circumstances during the S-MM2H visa holders’ long term stay in the country. However, this amount will be refunded upon termination of visa status. ONLY main applicant compulsory to make this one-time payment upon approval. Otherwise no visa endorsement can be done.
